Today’s exclusive is from a Berlin-based grunge three-piece who’ve found a fine balance between dirty guitars and pop vocal harmonies
Murmur Tooth are Leah Hinton (guitar and vocals), Adam Brown (bass) and Claire Janini (drums and vocals). They are grunge with an element of pop and some killer vocal harmonies. Not only this, they are a truly generous trio, as you will shortly discover.
Frontwomen Leah Hinton is a troubadour of the world. Having spent ten years on the road with her previous band El Schlong, living between New Zealand, London and Berlin. The travelling meant El Schlong didn’t get many opportunities to record their music.
Hinton’s introduction to music came at the age of five, when she started classical training. But it was her discovery of Nirvana that sparked her passion for music. This can be clearly heard in Murmur Tooth’s songs. But her childhood lessons weren’t a waste of time.
The band combine musical parameters to create a balance between light and dark. A characteristic you’d expect from a classically trained musician.
Now a permanent resident of Berlin, Hinton is exploring the world of recording. The result of this is Murmour Tooth’s brilliant, The Room EP and the band have kindly demanded that we give it away to you lucky people for free.
Of The Room EP, Hinton says: “I recorded and mixed it myself, something I’ve been getting into lately. I’ve become fascinated by the possibilities of the recording and mixing process as an extension of the creative songwriting process.”
You can download The Room EP here for free by just typing “0” into pay what you want. You can also see the video for their song, Knees Are Clean below
