They’ve been shown on US TV for years; now the world’s biggest music awards will also be seen in Britain
hatever your opinion of the Grammy awards – and they’ve come in for their share of criticism over the years, most recently from Azealia Banks and others regarding the artists nominated in the hip-hop categories – there’s no denying that they’re the most high-profile awards in music, the recording industry’s equivalent of the Oscars. Yet until now, the Grammy awards ceremony has never been shown on TV here in the UK.
That’s about to change, as 4Music has announced that it will be showing this year’s ceremony – the 57th, which takes place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Expect to see performances from Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Rihanna, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Pharrell, Annie Lennox and Madonna.
There’s just one catch: the ceremony takes place on Sunday (8 February), but the 4Music broadcast won’t be until Monday 9 February.
