HAWK: singer Julie Hawk’s vocals have that distinctive Irish beauty, like the sirens from old sailor’s tales

Two songs that call-out the lack of progress of women’s rights in today’s world, labeling it embarrassing, which it is

HAWK 'Can't Explain/Below' singleCan’t Explain/Below is a double A-side that reflects the band’s social awareness, documenting their anger at the continued mistreatment of women.

Inspired by Ireland’s history and the recent questioning of the country’s abortion laws, Below is as rich as it is desperate. Singer Julie Hawk’s vocals have that distinctive Irish beauty, like the sirens from old sailor’s tales. But don’t let that fool you; her voice may sound silvery, however, her words are seething and demand change.

Can’t Explain has a slow thrash vibe to the guitars that offset Hawk’s piercing vocals perfectly. The groove is distinctive, yet it never pulls attention away from the vocals and, more importantly, the lyrics.

Anyone who shares HAWK’s feelings of betrayal will find a home within their music. It will, hopefully, provide added courage for all of us, as we continue the battle for equality.

Verdict: Songs that demand change
